Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol into theaters 5 days before its scheduled theatrical release date of December 21st, reports Variety.Distributor Paramount Pictures confirmed the move last week, but IMAX only made it official this morning.
The fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise had about thirty minutes show with IMAX cameras.
"We believe that the early release of this blockbuster film … will help generate extra buzz and incremental revenue for both Imax and the box office overall," Richard Gelfond, IMAX's CEO said.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol also stars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Léa Seydoux, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov and Anil Kapoor.
The film is directed by Brad Bird, from the screenplay by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, and the story by J.J. Abram
s and Tom Cruise.
Abrams produces alongside his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burke, as well as Tom Cruise.
Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol”.
Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attack.
To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know.
